This summer I did my usual sprucing up in my bedroom and got rid of a lot of junk. As I was cleaning, I stumbled upon such a gem! I found my old writings from when I was a young teenager of around 13 years old. It was amazing looking through my old writings of poetry and song lyrics. I can’t believe how many years I’ve been writing and only now am I finally realizing my dream. I think it is always so sweet to read the thoughts of my former self. I was so young, sweet, and naive. I have absolutely changed and evolved as a writer as I got older. Sadly, I’ve become worn and jaded and negative. I was always sad though. The writing clearly depicts that sadness and longing to fit in and to feel love. The following are my works from when I was about 13 years old until about 17 years old– circa 1992 until about 1998.

“Choose to Live” By: PSG Lopes
I stand there and love above, then look below, wondering where I’d go.
Wanting to go above, but afraid to go below.

Sometimes we look all around and see each other with a frown.
Sometimes I wonder who is here,
Also, wondering if they are near.
Sometimes we cry if we try to say goodbye.

Friends for so long, but what were we to do.
The time flew after they moved.
A year later… who?
Many times we promised that we’d stay together.
But who knew that a year later we’d have such a faded friendship.

That special day we give thanks,
To everything we have in this world.
Maybe sometimes we don’t deserve it,
So we decide to serve others.
So at least they have a chance to be thankful once.

Like a man’s best friend,
Like a friendship without end,
Like a person who believes in you,
Like a person who trusts in what you do,
Like when you’re alone,
When there’s no one to stay home,
Like days when you’re sad,
Like days when you’re glad,
Is a person called a friend.

When you are totally ignored,
When you’re absolutely bored,
When there is no love to give around,
Our faces come with a frown.
When I am fully grown,
No love has ever flown,
In our hearts, in our heads, not even when we are dead.

And say you really don’t mind,
When others are really rude,
And some with that attitude.
When you say that it’s not fair,
and I would say, ‘I don’t care.’
Some days I feel like I want to play or maybe even run away.
But sometimes you have to bear with it,
and deal with all of this.

As he walked by, I thought I would die.
As he told me his name,
I got extremely a lot of fame.
His sweet, kind words, as he lurked into my heart.
As we walked away,
All happy that day,
There were words that he need to say, ‘We can’t be together anymore,’
I fainted and hit the floor.
He woke me up, but he just wanted to say, ‘Can someday be our wedding day?’
I got up and kissed his face,
It felt as smooth as lace.
I said I love you,
He said the same.
But I woke up,
It was just a game.

Have you ever played the blame game?
It’s always the same.
I didn’t do it,
It’s always the same old shit.
It burns like hot flames, but still I get blamed.
It’s always the same blame game.
I’m getting sick of everyone who doesn’t believe me.
I’m always that squashed flea.
Don’t you know that I have feelings?
But why do I have to be the one who’s dealing with it?
It’s always the same blame game.

When the rain comes down,
Not a single soul frowns,
When the thunder and the lightning roar,
Do we tell them we want more?
Does it make us scared?
Are we really there?
Is that what happens when there’s no rain?
Finally the rain takes away all the pain.
But will the pain totally go away?
And stay like it was on that yesterday,
When there was no rain.

This kind of love keeps me on my feet,
Afraid this love will never come,
Will love choose only some?

But for a while there I couldn’t see.

Please God, let it snow.

When I fall asleep just count to ten.
